Rural Careers Expo and Agriculture Enrichment Day Riverina Agriculture Teachers Just giving you plenty of time to consider the following annual events later this term in the Wagga Wagga area that you might like to consider for some of your Year 10 and your Year 11 Agriculture students. Please read on and e-mail me an Expression of Interest if you want to attend at this stage. The first event is for any Year 10 students who might be interested in more of a practical Agriculture course and perhaps be more attracted to something like PI. We have been calling it a Rural Careers Expo and it will be helds at the Nth Wagga Primary Industries Centre and once again Graham Anderson is as keen as mustard for us to bring our students out there. The planned date is Friday 26th June (Week 9). We can handle about 70-80 students with again about 5 practical activities. Graham is applying for funds to put on some lunch and hire a couple of staff for the day. This day will be from about 9am to 3pm and once again a flyer will be emailed in about about a month. The second event coming up is planned for Monday 6th July (Week 11) which is our 4th Annual Agriculture Enrichment Day designed for any of your high flying Year 10 Ag students and your Yr 11 Ag students or even high flying PI students.(max of 100 students) I have taken on some of your feedback re incorporating a couple of animal related units. The Vet heavies at CSU are on board together with the School of Agriculture and the DPI (Graham Centre). As some of you know it involves 30 min sessions (about 5-6) on a range of Ag/Sc topics which you should find interesting as well. It is tricky to find volunteers to put in the day and this info in flyer form will be e-mailed to you in about a month or so. The day will probably start early at 8.45am and finish around 2pm to let give people travelling time. If your interested in any of these events for your students could you let me know and how many students may be involved in each. This will help in our preliminary planning which is still happeninng. These days have been organised only because we have a number of people down this way with the resources, experience and interest to promote their area of applied agriculture to the next generation and benefit our students. It is hard to organise the sort of activities that satisfy everyones interests (esp the enrichment day) and while we encourage your suggestions beforehand or your feedback afterwards we would appreciate that on the day we cannot change or modify what has been organised. These events are sponsored by the Nth Wagga TAFE and the Graham Centre and there should be no entry fees . Hope to hear from you shortly with an Expression of Interest. PS I hope I have covered everyone in the Riverina but please touch base with any neighbouring schools perhaps re transport and if you are on leave at the moment, let your school/colleagues know about it. PS If you know of anyone in the past 3 years who has attended the Enrichment day and is currently studying for an Ag degree, could you please let me know about it with a few brief details. WWHS has 1 but there must be a few about. Regards Al Allan(Al) McMillan |
Hi everyone, This email is to let you know about an event that will be happening at this years Royal Easter Show in Sydney titled "Careers In Agriculture Expo" (see Careers in Agriculture Expo Flyer) It is being put on in association with the Grain Growers Association, Rural Skills Australia and Career Advice Australia as well as some other industry participants. The day looks pretty exciting with demonstrations, information presentations and the chance to talk 1 on 1 with careers practitioners, namely us and some industry people to help students and parents get an idea of what is available in the agriculture industry. What do we need from you? Firstly we would like to invite you to be a part of the event. We understand that budgetary constraints are definitely an issue this year and that it may not be possible for some of you to get to Sydney but it would be great if you could come and represent your region. With so many parents and students at the show from all over NSW it will be a great opportunity for you to meet some people from your area and talk about the opportunities and issues that affect them. Secondly if you could get this flyer and description out to your networks and start to promote the event for us that would be fantastic. Registration details are provided on the flyer, this is important as they will be catering for participants and need to know numbers. Thirdly if there is an organisation or company in your area that you feel would fit in well with the theme and would get some benefit out of participating in the event we would love to hear about them. At this point we have 30 or so exhibitors but have room for more so if there is a company with current or identified skills shortage areas or even one that is looking to the future in terms of it's staff please let them know about it. The best contact for this side of things would be Garry Tongs (NICS). Thank you for your help and we hope to see you here in Sydney at the event. Alternatively if there is some specific information about careers in agriculture that you would like us to distribute or talk about please let us know so we can organise some copies and get up to speed with some research. Please feel free to give me a call with any questions you may have about the expo.
